I was raised in a farming family and I married a farmer, too. My husband’s name is Rick and we have a son, Levi, who continues the tradition. Our roots definitely run deep, with my Norwegian grandparents coming from Wisconsin to this area in 1912 to engage in agriculture. Our daughter Carly works with me in real estate. Both Levi and Carly are married and have two children each. Between 2005 -2009, we had three grandsons and one granddaughter. Those little cousins have a blast and bring great joy to us!

Around 1990 my non-social husband suggested I go into real estate. Honestly I had never thought of it before. He saw the value in my ability to strike up conversations with total strangers and my love of people. I have to admit, HE found MY niche! I love this work…it’s a continual challenge. Changes in the world of financing requirements, technology, housing markets and local events keep us on our toes. But I have found that CUSTOMER SERVICE NEVER CHANGES! Nothing will ever replace the fact that you can trust someone to help you with your very important real estate investment.

In 2002 I served as President as the Harlingen Board of Realtors, and at that time I initiated the construction of a new office for our board. It was completed in 2003. In 2009 our Board began giving annual awards for the Broker Of The Year and I was the recipient of the award. The fact that it was the first time it had ever been given and it was only voted on by my fellow brokers is a recognition I will always treasure. I take pride in trying to maintain good relationships with other agents which eventually trickles down to benefiting my own sellers and buyers.

Agricultural knowledge has served me very well when it comes to representing buyers and sellers of farmland and acreage. Helping first time home buyers is fun…I love seeing their excitement. Working with very experienced buyers and sellers is great, because they know the drill, so to speak. They also can spot a good agent, too! At this stage in my life I have also been through the care and loss of elderly parents, so I find myself extremely empathetic in that area. Whether it’s dealing with older folks needing to downsize, move near their children, assisting the children who are my age as they help their elderly parents relocate, or even sell a deceased family member’s home, I can relate.

I have had countless interesting real estate experiences over the years, but one of the most recent ones will forever stand out in my memory. It involved selling a very unique piece of property for an estate which required the agreement and signatures of six heirs who didn’t see eye-to-eye on things. The transaction eventually closed and my file was probably two inches thick. It was a small commission, but I felt a sense of accomplishment, even though it probably aged me in dog years!
